Great restaurant! Loved their stinky cheese fondue. Wow! ...of course, the other food was fantastic also. Good service, too.
Despite a wait for breakfast which was a little bit slower than I would have expected (around 30 minutes), it still is a wonderful experience. Some of the best hash browns in town, a slightly heartier pancake, crispy but not burned bacon, and attentive service. Worth bringing somebody new to town to for a genuine downtown La Crosse experience.
The place has a nice ambiance and as vegetarians, we had several good options too. But the food wasn't anything great - we ordered the blooming onion (had a lot of oil in the bottom) and hummus (had some picked cucumber in it which my kids and I aren't too fond of) as appetizer, sesame noodles (was on the sweeter side and had no salt or spice, it was interesting though) and the garden burger (the patty tasted like cardboard). I'm not sure I want to go back.
What I didn't like :I ordered a cheese burger with Gouda cheese and a side of chicken dumpling soup. I got the soup first like I asked and it had a lot of dumplings and chicken which was great but I didn't have very much flavor. My cheeseburger bun was a bit hard and the burger itself tasted like bacon. There was no bacon on the sandwich but it tasted like there was and for someone who can't eat bacon it was a bit unsettling. Q.
What I liked: the atmosphere, the staff, overall quickness of food. I also liked that the staff comes out just enough to check on you but not too much that they annoy you with questions. The cheese curds were awesome. Roommate had the chicken cordon blue sandwich and said it was really good.
Decent place if you're not in a hurry. We waited for an hour to get in, and almost as long to get our food. There were 8 of us, so can understand the wait to get in, but I think the wait for the food was quite excessive at almost an hour after we placed our orders. Most of the food was OK. I have to praise the gyro omelette though. It was amazing. That is the only reason for the third star.
