We were there because my nephew was in town for a basketball tournament and he chose Big Al's for dinner. The food was good. Our server was great. He was good with my little one-yes, she was a little restless and did not want to behave as she should (thank you for not kicking us out by the way). He kept giving her oranges from the bar. However, the reason I give three stars....I understand that the state track meet was over the weekend. They did not have a kids menu like normal, there were very limited choices for a very picky four year old. I asked the server if they could make an exception and they were not able to. She ate the chicken strips that were on the menu anyway. But, as a suggestion, next time there is a large event in town and you expect a lot people to come, include your kids menu, because there are families that come down with small children and they may want something else beside a burger or chicken strips. Also, maybe something to do for the little ones like coloring sheets or something. It makes the littles less restless and the parents happier.
The waitress disappeared for about 20 minutes (never bringing the third water out), and then brought the appetizer. Unfortunately, she didn't bring the kids meal. She also didn't bring any silverware or napkins. We asked about the kids meal and the other water, and she went to check. She came back and told us the kids meal we had ordered was unavailable that evening, so we needed to pick a different one?!? Shouldn't she have known that already if it was supposed to come out with the appetizer? Anyway, we skipped the kids meal, and our son just ate the pizza. The pizza itself was very tasty, though they missed one of the toppings on the pizza.
It had been a few years since we had gone to Big Al's, so we decided to give it a try. We sat down, and the waitress brought out two waters (there were three of us at the table). We asked about a coupon special we had as well as an advertised special on the board. We were told we could use both the coupon and get the advertised special as well, so that is what we did. We also ordered a kids meal for my son. We asked that the kids meal come out with the appetizer since he was pretty hungry.
If zero stars was an option that would have been my selection. Walked in at 545pm on Sunday night. Sign read "please seat yourself" so our party of 6 looked around for a table to fit us. There wasn't much to choose from but we found a spot where we could wait for a smaller table to be cleaned and then pushed up with another smaller table. Never once were we acknowledged by an employee. A handful of them walked by or peeked out of the kitchen area but we must have been invisible. After waiting for 10 minutes with no interaction we decided to leave and choose a new place to dine.
When the bill came, neither the coupon nor the advertised special were discounted. We asked, and our server then said that we couldn't use them both at the same time, which was different from what we were told originally.
Big restaurant, good pizza and HUGE ice cream after dinner cocktails like Grasshoppers, Gold Cadillac, Punk Squirrel, etc
Slightly overpriced. Good food, but terrible service.
Terrible experience. Five in my family went together. Two shared a pizza, two ordered wings, one ordered a burger. Sat for an hour after our order was taken and the pizza for two in our party arrived. The rest of us had to sit and wait for another 20 minutes before more food arrived. We were told this is because the pizzas are made in a different part of the kitchen and the 2 sides of the kitchen didn't sync up our order??... Hmm.... Well, after 20 mins only two other people's order arrived: the burger and ONE person's BBQ wings. But still, not my hot wings. The waitress said she wasn't sure what was going on in the kitchen but that the manager was talking to the kitchen staff. I wondered when the manager would come talk to me. Several mins later the waitress brought out HALF my order of hot wings. The other half was apparently not cooked yet?? After being there an hour and a half, watching the rest of my family eat their food, I had finally received half of my food. We were told the manager would make some adjustments to my bill, but still no word from the manager. I asked to take the remainder of my wings to go and told the waitress it would be nice for the manager to come talk to us. When the manager came to the table, she said "something wrong?". Uh, yeah, we came to eat as a family, not separately. And certainly never imagined it would take an hour and a half to get an order of chicken wings. She said she was taking the order of wings off the bill. I was thoroughly disappointed. That's it? That's how you're going to remedy this? It's been 2 hours since we arrived, we've received all our food at different times, had to watch everyone around us eat, no management apology, I'm now taking my wings to go because I had other plans I'm now late for and never anticipated being here for TWO HOURS, and that's it? So she says, "ok, I'll see what the can do". She took another $20 off the bill and we still ended up spending over $40 for one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Well, more than that because we generously tipped our waitress whose fault it wasn't, she was just the bearer of bad news each time she had to deliver one order (or portion of an order) with no idea of why the rest wasn't there. Terrible experience, will never go back!
Needless to say, we won't be going back to Big Al's anytime soon. Maybe if you get carry out so you don't need to worry about the service. The pizza is still a bit overpriced, but it is tasty.
